Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Vobbl (“we”, “us”, “the App”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Vobbl mobile application.

Vobbl is operated for anglers primarily in the United States and Canada. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive:

1.2 Content You Create

1.3 Location Data

Vobbl uses your device’s GPS to automatically record where a catch was made and to show nearby spots on the map. Location access is requested at the operating-system level and can be denied or revoked at any time in your device settings; core logging features that don’t depend on location will continue to work.

1.4 Device & Diagnostic Information

1.5 Community Content

If you create or join a Community (a group space within the App organized around a lake/region or a fishing topic), we collect:

See Section 5.1 for who can see this content, including when platform moderators can view content in a private community.

1.6 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect payment card numbers (payments, if any, are handled by the App Store / Google Play billing systems, not by us), and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (see Section 7).

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

3. How We Store and Protect Information

4. Third-Party Services

Vobbl relies on the following third-party service providers, each of which processes a limited slice of data necessary to provide their service:

Provider Purpose Data Shared
Supabase Backend database, authentication, file storage Account info, catch data, photos
Google Sign-In Authentication Name, email, profile picture
Apple Sign-In Authentication Name, email (or private relay email)
Mapbox Maps, geocoding, bathymetry Precise location, map interactions
Weather data provider(s) Weather and solunar conditions Catch location coordinates
Firebase Crashlytics (Google) Crash and error reporting, to find and fix bugs Crash logs, stack traces, device model, OS version, app version — not your catch data, photos, or account profile
Firebase Analytics (Google) Understanding how the App is used, to improve features and reliability Screen views, app-usage events, device model, OS version, app version — not your catch data, photos, or account profile
Google Gemini API Automated content moderation and fish species identification for catch photos; automated review of private-community posts for prohibited content and safety-risk signals (Section 5.2) Catch photos; private-community post text and media
Advertising network (e.g. Google AdMob) Displaying in-app advertisements Device identifiers, general (non-precise) location, app usage data, ad interaction data

We do not sell your personal information. The App displays advertisements through third-party advertising networks (see table above), which may collect and use certain data (such as device identifiers and general location) for their own advertising purposes, including ad personalization where permitted and consented to. You can manage ad personalization preferences via the in-app consent screen and your device’s ad settings.

5. Sharing With Other Users

Certain content — such as public catches, badges, or profile info — may be visible to other Vobbl users if you choose to share it, consistent with in-app privacy settings available to you. Private catches and spots are not shared with other users.

5.1 Communities

A public community’s posts and member list are visible to anyone using the App. A private community’s posts, member list, and pending join requests are visible only to its members — with the following exception:

5.2 Safety Review of Community Content

Posts in a private community are automatically screened, in addition to our general content-moderation checks, for signs of planning violence or illegal activity, because the privacy of such a group is itself a factor we treat as raising risk. This screening does not read or analyze private messaging elsewhere in the App — it applies only to posts submitted to a private community.

If a post is flagged by this screening, it is hidden from other community members pending human review, and we retain a record of the post (content, media, and the community’s member list at that time) for that review. This record is accessible only to platform administrators, not to community owners, admins, or moderators. We may be required by law to report certain categories of content to law enforcement in some jurisdictions.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email in Section 9. We will respond within a reasonable time, consistent with applicable law (e.g. CCPA/CPRA for California residents, PIPEDA for Canadian residents).

6.1 California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in Section 9 with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity (e.g. by confirming account details) before processing certain requests.

7. Children’s Privacy

Vobbl is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above, and, where required by law, we will provide additional notice.
