Arbor Knot
BeginnerStopper
A simple, quick knot for attaching line or backing to an empty spool arbor before spooling up. It doesn't need to be especially strong — its only job is to keep the first wraps from spinning loose while the rest of the line is wound on.
Profile
- Strength: 3/10
- Ease: 8/10
- Speed: 9/10
- Reliability: 6/10
- Versatility: 5/10
- Compactness: 7/10
How to Tie It
- Wrap the line around the spool arbor and tie a simple overhand knot around the standing line.
- Tie a second overhand knot in the tag end a few inches further along, then pull the standing line so the first knot slides down and jams against the second, locking to the spool.
Best For
- Monofilament
- Braid
- Fluorocarbon
Tips
- Add a drop of superglue on top of the finished knot for extra insurance — if it ever slips on the smooth arbor, you lose your whole spool of line.
