Snell Knot
IntermediateHook & Lure
A traditional method for lashing a hook directly to the leader using wraps around both the hook shank and the line itself, rather than tying through the eye. This lines the hook up for a straighter, more direct hookset — a favorite among bait fishermen using octopus or bait-holder style hooks.

How to Tie It
- Pass the line through the hook eye, then lay a long loop back along the shank.
- Holding the loop against the shank, wrap the tag end around both the shank and the loop 6-8 times toward the eye.
- Moisten the wraps and pull the standing line to cinch the coils tight against the shank, then trim the tag end.

- Monofilament
- Fluorocarbon
Tips
- A snelled hook pulls in line with the shank instead of the eye, which drives the hook point straighter into a fish's jaw on the hookset.
