Bobber Rig
EssentialBeginnerFreshwater
A hook and bait suspended below a float, held at a fixed depth over structure or open water. Bite indication is instant and visual — the float dips or vanishes the moment a fish takes the bait, which is why it's the classic first rig for a beginner.

Technique tips
- Set the float depth to just above bottom or the top of the structure you're fishing — too shallow and it drifts over fish, too deep and it drags.
- Works best in still or slow water where the float holds position — fast current sweeps it past fish before they notice it.
- A float lying flat means slack line or a fish mouthing the bait without pulling down yet — tighten up before striking.
